As a part of CEO Cynt Marshall’s 100 Day Plan to transform the culture of the Mavs organization, Dallas Mavericks staff had the opportunity to be a part of leadership meetings over the past 2 days at American Airlines Center. The meetings included Diversity and Inclusion Training, led by Marshall herself, Business Planning for the 2018-2019 Season and an innovative music and learning program with The Music Paradigm.

Created by maestro Roger Nierenberg, former music director of the Stamford Symphony in Connecticut and the Jacksonville Symphony in Florida, the session showcased the conductor’s insight on leadership and collaboration as the participants’ attention is drawn to unexpected organizational dynamics within the orchestra. The program utilized a live classical orchestra drawn from the surrounding Dallas/Fort Worth area and the team was seated within the orchestra to observe the highly trained musicians as they performed.

“I knew Roger and his program would be the perfect Grand Finale of our business meetings this week. The way he connects to each department, compares and contrasts the intricacies and dynamics of his orchestra to the staff at the Mavericks was powerful, emotional and inspiring for all of us,” said Cynt Marshall, CEO of the Dallas Mavericks. “We thank Roger, his team and the guest orchestra for spending the afternoon with us.”

The Mavs hired Nierenberg’s Music Paradigm to deliver a session on leadership and business culture with an emphasis on listening, collaborating, respect and empowerment to 100 employees on the business side of the organization. This is the first time that a professional sports team has utilized The Music Paradigm as the Mavericks organization aims to set a new standard for diversity and inclusion in the NBA by 2019.
