LOS ANGELES – The home of Dallas Mavericks center DeAndre Jordan has been spared by the wildfires in California.

Jordan said the fires came very close to engulfing his home in Malibu, and he had to depend on others to receive updates on what was transpiring around his neighborhood.

“It’s still standing, which is great,” Jordan said on Friday. “It got some of my landscaping, but my house escaped.

“It’s tough because I was just getting updates from the fire station.”

Meanwhile, Jordan did something this week that he said he’s never done before. He stayed in a hotel in Los Angeles.

Jordan spent the previous 10 seasons working for the Los Angeles Clippers. He has his own digs in Los Angeles, so staying in a hotel wasn’t on his radar.

However, since Jordan signed a one-year free agent contract with the Mavs this past July, things have changed.

When the Mavs played the Los Angeles Lakers in LA on Oct. 31, Jordan was able to stay at his Malibu resident, because the fires were not a threat at that time. But not this time.

“This is my first time staying in a hotel in LA, so that’s weird,” Jordan said. “Due to the Malibu fires I wasn’t able to stay at my house. “
