My design was created to celebrate the people of Dallas and the countless dedicated Mavs fans and families around the world. Highly inspired by the fun and expressive cartoony figuration of comic strips I enjoyed growing up, I wanted this design to highlight the boundless joy and celebration of a brand new season with our beloved Mavs.

I feel there’s no better symbol for “Celebration, Hype, and creating Energy” than the Jumbotron. When the crowd needs a boost, looking to switch the momentum or just enjoy the experience we can always look up and see something exciting. This is why I used it as my center piece for the design. Also, I didn’t want to use any generic Jumbotron but an actual one the American Airlines has used. So, I searched and found the original score board and added a few small details for all the MFFL’s.

One of my favorite memories of my son was taking him to his first Dallas Mavericks game. Ever since then he’s been a basketball super fan. He also has a pretty good artistic talent with a little bit of my help. We came up with this, the best feeling in the world, win. The basketball goes in and it’s nothing but net.

Being myself an artist for over 10 years, most of my work inspired me by music, my Hispanic roots, and the contemporary art. This contest was not an exception, I use a variety of textures and combination of brushes inspired by Latin American flowers and birds. I think birds are the icon of freedom, flowers are a representation of love and power. I was also inspired by my favorite artist Michael Jean Basquiat. He inspires me to use hiding objects, graffiti work, but without loosing our Latino background.

My design is inspired by the vibrancy and richness of Latin cultures. The strong sense of community and unique expressions of art and music are an endless source of inspiration. The bold colors represent the joy of bringing people together through celebration.

Lindsay Wolverton - Fan Appreciation Shirt Design

Being a fan means providing a solid base to uplift and cheer on your team through the highest highs and the lowest lows. I carved out the iconic “MFFL” phrase into the Dallas city skyline to represent this, almost as if the fanbase was an actual structural support. I outlined the design in bright, neon-esque blues to mimic neon borders of our skyscrapers; and, not to leave out my own stylistic touch, placed a Pegasus-homage Champ on top of the city to represent the team we support.

My inspiration for the Dallas Mavericks Tee’d Up Design contest was all about bringing a playful + retro vibe to the table. My lil’ basketball dude is decked out in the Mavericks’ classic cowboy hat, tipping his hat to the team’s rich history and Texas roots. In one hand, the character holds a foam finger high, representing unwavering fan support, while the other hand spins a basketball, adding an element of excitement and motion.This design is a fun mix of nostalgia, unshakable team love, and a big ol’ Texas-sized grin, making it a whimsical tribute to Mavericks. S’go Mavs!
