As Mavs debuts go, it’s hard to come up with back-to-back performances better than the two Yogi Ferrell put together in wins against San Antonio and Cleveland.
Just about 36 hours after signing a 10-day contract with Dallas, Ferrell scored nine points, including two game-sealing free throws, and dished out seven assists without turning the ball over as the Mavs beat the Spurs in San Antonio for the first time since 2010. Then, a day later, he outscored Kyrie Irving 19-18 and stole the ball four times as Dallas toppled LeBron James and the Cavaliers. Two days, two games, two starts, and two wins for the rookie out of Indiana.
The Mavs rave about Ferrell’s advanced basketball IQ for a player his age, and that’s been on full display so far. He knows when to pass and when to shoot, and he plays hard-nosed defense. He’s certainly one to watch moving forward.
