About the Mavericks: This is the second game of a three-game road trip for the Mavs. The trip opened with Friday’s 114-109 loss at the Utah Jazz. After tonight’s game, the Mavs will travel to Los Angeles to play the Lakers on Tuesday before returning home to entertain the Warriors on Thursday. . .The Mavs got outscored, 54-42, in the second half of the loss to the Jazz after leading, 67-60, at halftime. Luka Doncic (23 points, seven rebounds, 11 assists), Dwight Powell (22 points, 26 minutes), Spencer Dinwiddie (20 points, 26 minutes) and Davis Bertans (17 points, 19 minutes) led the fight against the Jazz. Powell was 9-of-12 from the field, Dinwiddie converted 8-of-12 shots, and Bertans made five of his eight attempts from three-point range. . .The Mavs are 15-14 on the road this season and 24-15 against Western Conference foes. . .Earlier this year, the Mavs and Warriors split a pair of games, with each team winning on their respective home court. Back on Jan. 5 at American Airlines Center, Doncic collected 26 points, seven rebounds, eight assists and two steals in leading the Mavs to a 99-82 victory over the Warriors. The 82 points remain as the lowest amount of points the Warriors have scored in a game this season. . .Despite 25 points and eight rebounds from Doncic, the Warriors regrouped and defeated the Mavs, 130-92, in San Francisco, on Jan. 25. . .Jalen Brunson is averaging career highs in points (16.1 ppg, rebounds (3.8 rpg) and assists (5.4 apg). While starting the last 35 games, Brunson averaged 17.4 ppg, 3.7 rpg and 5.7 apg. . .Powell has scored in double figures in 20 games this season, and the Mavs are a healthy 16-4 in those games.
About the Warriors: After winning nine straight games, the Warriors suddenly ran into a bump in the road and have now lost four of their last six games. However, the Warriors drilled the Portland Trail Blazers, 132-95, on Thursday behind 18 points and 14 assists from Stephen Curry, and 18 points from Klay Thompson. . .Led by Curry, the Warriors are owners of the NBA’s best record at home at 26-6. They also have the league’s second-best record at 43-17. . .Curry enters tonight’s game holding the NBA record for making at least one three-pointer in 180 consecutive games. Curry is averaging 25.7 ppg, 5.3 rpg and 6.5 apg. . .In that 17-point loss to the Mavs earlier this season, Curry scored just 14 points and was only 5-of-24 from the field and 1-of-9 from beyond the three-point stripe. . .Curry has 1,357 career steals, which is just three shy of the Warriors’ franchise record of 1,360 by Chris Mullin. . .In the 17 games he’s played since returning after missing two-and-half years due to injuries, Thompson is averaging 17.1 ppg. The Warriors are 9-8 since Thompson returned on Jan. 9. Thompson will not play because of a non-COVID-19 illness. . .The heart and soul of the Warriors, forward Draymond Green has missed the past 22 games with a disc injury. . .Fresh off starting alongside Curry in last week’s All-Star game, Andrew Wiggins is averaging 17.6 ppg and shooting career highs from the field (47.8 percent) and three-point land (40.9 percent). . .Forward Jonathan Kuminga has been a very bright spot off the bench this season for the Warriors. The rookie from the Democratic Republic of the Congo is averaging 8.1 ppg and brings a ton of energy to the court once he enters the game.
