About the Mavericks: This is the finale of a short two-game home stand before the Mavs head to Minnesota to battle the Timberwolves on Friday. . .The home stand opened Monday in grand fashion when the Mavs gutted out a hard-fought 110-108 victory over the Timberwolves that went down to the wire. It was a well-balanced attack by the Mavs as – led by 22 points from Dwight Powell and 20 from Spencer Dinwiddie — they had six players score 15 or more points, the first time that’s happened since April 23, 1989. By the way, Powell was a perfect 8-of-8 from the field and also grabbed eight rebounds against Minnesota. The Mavs are 22-5 when Powell tallies 10 or more points. . .The Mavs are 3-0 against the Rockets this season and won the three games by an average of 15.7 ppg. Behind 26 points, 14 rebounds, seven assists and two steals from Luka Doncic, the Mavs defeated the Rockets, 116-106, at American Airlines Center on Oct. 26. . .The Mavs had five players score at least 15 points en route to beating the Rockets in Houston, 130-106, on Jan. 7. . .Doncic produced 30 points, 14 rebounds, six assists and two blocks as the Mavs won again in Houston, 113-100, on March 11. Also in that game, Powell poured in a career-high tying 26 points. . .The Mavs are hoping to sweep the season series against the Rockets the first time since the 2011-’12 season when Jason Kidd was still playing for the Mavs. . .The Mavs are 18-4 when Reggie Bullock scores 10 or more points and 10-2 when he scores 15 or more points.
About the Rockets: If there’s one team who can’t wait for the offseason, it’s the Rockets, who own the NBA’s worst record. . .The Rockets have lost 22 of their last 26 games. However, all four wins have been in impressive fashion. . .Houston enters tonight’s game after staging a major comeback Monday night against the Washington Wizards. The Rockets trailed the Wizards, 83-80, after three quarters, but outscored them, 35-14, in the fourth quarter and went on to claim a 115-97 victory. Christian Wood converted 8-of-9 shots from three-point territory and paced the Rockets with 39 points and 10 rebounds. Rookie Jalen Green scored 17 points, and Eric Gordon was 5-of-7 from downtown and tallied 15 points. The Rockets made 20-of-39 shots from beyond the three-point arc. . .Green poured in 32 points, Alperen Sengun contributed 21 points and 14 rebounds, and Josh Christopher added 21 points in only 22 minutes as the Rockets defeated the Los Angeles Lakers, 139-130, in overtime on March 9. . .Kevin Porter Jr. tossed in 29 points, Wood collected 28 points and 13 boards, and Green finished with 24 points and eight rebounds to lead Houston to a 123-112 win over Memphis on March 6. . .On Feb. 2, the Rockets beat Cleveland, 115-104, behind 21 points apiece from Wood and Green. . .Houston also shocked the Jazz in Utah, winning 116-111 behind 23 points from Garrison Mathews. . .The Rockets are led by Wood (18.2 ppg, 10.1 rpg), Green (15.7 ppg), Porter (14 ppg, 5.9 apg) and Gordon (13.8 ppg). Also, they’ve gotten solid production from Jae’Sean Tate (12 ppg, 5.5 rpg), Dennis Schroder (10.7 ppg) and Mathews (10.5 ppg).
