Season after season, the Mavs have fielded some of the most internationally diverse rosters in the NBA. Dallas puts forth a tremendous amount of effort in international scouting and we’ve seen the fruits of the club’s labor: Germany’s Dirk Nowitzki is about to become the sixth-leading scorer in NBA history.
But Nowitzki isn’t the only international player on the Mavs’ roster. Point guard J.J. Barea squared off against Canada’s Dwight Powell at the FIBA Americas Championship this summer, and Georgia’s Zaza Pachulia and Tunisia’s Salah Mejri competed in FIBA tournaments overseas as well. The Dominican Republic’s Charlie Villanueva has always been proud of and outspoken about his Afro-Latino heritage.
So, then, it only makes sense for some of the world-class talent on the roster to shout out their fans from around the world before the season kicks off, as a way of not only recognizing the diverse MFFL family, but also as a sign of appreciation for the fans’ support.
From Salah Mejri:

From Charlie Villanueva:

From Dirk Nowitzki:
(OK, OK: We should preface this by saying that the power forward’s scream/groan combo is not actually German, and to my knowledge it isn’t in any language. But it’s pretty obvious that he’s excited for the season to start.)
