Mavs Academy FAQs

IN-PERSON CAMPS AND CLINICS FAQs

SAFETY/MEDICAL

WHAT ARE YOUR COVID PROTOCOLS?

The Mavs Academy’s number one priority is the safety of our campers, staff, and community. Mavs Academy will continue to monitor the guidelines from various government orders, health experts and the NBA to develop appropriate protocols (which may include social distancing, mask wearing, and sanitization) for our camps. Additional information will be provided to registered campers via email.

WHAT IF MY CHILD HAS A MEDICAL CONDITION?

Please indicate if your child has a medical condition or allergy during the registration process. We will make a note and share that information with the camp director.

WHAT ARE YOUR PROTOCOLS IF A PLAYER GETS HURT AT CAMP?

All Summer Hoop Camps will have a certified athletic trainer on site throughout the entirety of camp to help with preventative measures, immediate care for injuries and other medical conditions. The parent or guardian listed on the registration form will be contacted if there is a serious injury or illness.

REGISTRATION

HOW DO I REGISTER FOR CAMPS?

Register online at mavs.com/academy, click the camp link, select the camp date you wish to register for, then complete the form.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I ACCIDENTALLY REGISTER FOR THE WRONG CAMP?

Please contact MavsAcademy@DallasMavs.com as soon as possible.

WHAT IS THE COST OF CAMP?

Camp costs will be customized to each type of camp. All camp costs are noted on the registration page as a part of the camp description.

IS THERE A DISCOUNT FOR FAMILIES WITH MULTIPLE CHILDREN?

There are no discounts offered at this time.

IF A SESSION IS SOLD OUT, CAN I GET ON THE WAITING LIST?

Yes, if the registration link is still active on our website but the camp is full, you can still register and automatically be added to the waiting list.

WHAT IF MY CHILD IS A YEAR YOUNGER THAN THE MINIMUM REGISTRATION AGE?

Players who do not meet the minimum registration age are asked to refrain from registering in that particular session. We are more than happy to have that player attend a session that fits his/her registration age.

WHAT IS THE AGE CUT OFF FOR SUMMER PROGRAMS?

The registration information on our website for each program lists the age requirements. The participant’s age on the first day of camp will be the age used.

DO YOU TAKE WALK-UP REGISTRATIONS?

Walk-up registrations are accepted ONLY if the camp is NOT sold out. The parent/guardian must fill out and submit the registration form and payment upon walk-up.

CANCELLATIONS

WHAT IF I NEED TO CANCEL MY REGISTRATION?

We understand that plans change, and situations happen.  If you need to cancel a registration for any reason, please email MavsAcademy@DallasMavs.com with the camper name, camp name, camp date, and camp location and we will help take care of your needs. If you need to talk through your options, please provide the best number and time to contact you.

WHAT IS THE WEATHER POLICY?

Mavs Academy will not cancel programs due to seasonal, weather-related conditions. However, in the case of extreme weather, Mavs Academy may cancel or postpone events for the safety of the campers. Our Youth Basketball Coordinator will notify parents via email for all cancellations and provide all necessary details at least eight hours prior to camp. In the rare event of a cancellation during a camp, we will send an email to each parent during camp confirming the early cancellation. Your child will not be left alone, and we will stay with each camper until all parents have picked them up. We will make every effort to reschedule cancelled events. Upon reschedule, if for any reason you cannot attend a rescheduled date, a full refund will be issued, or a credit given to a future camp.

DAY OF CAMP

WHAT TIME CAN I DROP MY CHILD OFF AT CAMP?

We strongly encourage one parent or guardian to be with the child on the first day of camp for check-in. After the first day, campers can be dropped off up to 30 minutes prior to the start of camp. Camper supervision is not guaranteed any earlier.

WHAT TIME IS CHECK-IN?

Check-in on the first day of camp begins 30 minutes prior to the start of camp. Orientation and camp introductions will take place on the first day of the start of camp and last approximately 15 minutes.

DO YOU OFFER ANY PRE- OR POST-CAMP SUPERVISION?

Coaches will be available to supervise the gym 30 minutes prior to the start of camp. We do not offer any post-camp programs. We ask that all campers are picked up promptly at the scheduled end of camp each day.

WHAT ARE CAMP HOURS?

Camp hours vary based on type of camp session. See the information for each camp on the registration page for more details.

CAN PARENTS STAY AND WATCH?

We recommend that parents who stay to watch primarily observe and refrain from coaching or giving ongoing feedback during the session. Many times, players get confused and it may cause additional disruption.

WHAT SHOULD CAMPERS BRING?

The camp description on the registration page will list the required items. For most camps, a water bottle and appropriate basketball shoes will be required. Full day camps will require campers to bring their own lunch. Please mark all personal items with your name and phone number.

DO THE PLAYERS NEED TO BRING THEIR OWN BASKETBALL?

Campers do not need to bring their own ball and we ask that they are left at home.

IS LUNCH PROVIDED FOR FULL-DAY CAMPERS?

No. Each camper must bring his/her own lunch. A 20-30 minute lunch break will be provided, and all campers must remain on site during this time. We also ask that campers do not share lunches due to potential food allergies.

WILL A MAVS PLAYER BE PRESENT?

Player appearances are never guaranteed and are subject to player availability.

CAN MY CAMPER BE PICKED UP FROM CAMP BY A COACH OR OTHER FAMILY MEMBER?

If someone other than a legal parent or guardian will be picking up your camper, please let the camp director know the details when you drop off the camper.

I AM UNSURE OF WHERE CAMP IS LOCATED. CAN YOU PROVIDE DIRECTIONS?

The address for each camp location is on our website in the registration details so that you may look up directions.

WHO DO I TELL ABOUT MY CAMPER’S MEDICINE OR MEDICAL SUPPLIES NEEDED DURING CAMP?

If your camper must bring an inhaler, other medical supplies or medication, please let the camp staff know during check in on the first day. You may be directed to speak with the trainer or camp director.

WHAT WILL MY CAMPER RECEIVE?

Campers will always walk away from the last day of camp with something. Each camp varies on what is handed out, but the following camps have guaranteed items:
Hoop Camp: Mavs Academy reversible jersey, player evaluation
Development Camp: Mavs Academy reversible jersey and shorts

WHO ARE THE COACHES?

Most coaches and site directors are local high school and middle school coaches. We also use some college students who aspire to be coaches. All camps have the oversight of full-time Dallas Mavericks staff who develop and implement the camp drills and programming along with making sure that all coaches are trained and follow the standards of Mavs Academy.
