The Dallas Mavericks announced today that forward-center Dwight Powell will compete for the World Team in the 2016 BBVA Compass Rising Stars Challenge at All-Star Weekend. The game will be played at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto on Friday, Feb. 12, and will air live on TNT at 8 p.m. CT.

Powell (6-11, 240) is averaging 6.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 17.0 minutes in 45 games for Dallas this season. He has posted three double-doubles and has scored in double figures 14 times this year.

The second-year forward-center becomes the first player to represent the Mavericks in the annual Rookie-Sophomore game since Devin Harris at the 2006 All-Star Weekend in Houston.

Powell is one of two Toronto-born players on this year’s World Team roster, along with Andrew Wiggins of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
