When it comes to the Currys, it’s family first.

That’s what we learned Tuesday night when Mavs guard Seth Curry took over the Mavs’ Twitter account (@dallasmavs), answering 20 fan questions about his favorite TV shows, his favorite album of the year, and, of course, his family.

Seth’s father, Dell, played in the NBA from 1986-2002, most notably with the Charlotte Hornets, with whom he won the Sixth Man of the Year award for the 1993-94 season. Seth hopes to have a similar impact for the Mavericks this season, as his shooting and improving playmaking abilities could bolster the Mavs’ backcourt.

Of course, Seth’s older brother, Steph, is also a pretty popular NBA player. And as if the Currys’ connection could grow any stronger, Seth will play this season with two of Steph’s former teammates, Harrison Barnes and Andrew Bogut.

Both Curry brothers have worn No. 30 for their entire playing career, and Seth will continue that in Dallas. (He’ll be the first No. 30 for the Mavs since Dahntay Jones wore the number in the 2012-13 season. Only four other players have donned the jersey.) Curry pointed out the reason why he wears No. 30, but he’s not sure of the reason behind the reason.

Dell wore the number all through his playing career, and his No. 30 jersey is retired at Virginia Tech.

In addition to chatting about his family, Curry explained why he chose to sign with the Mavs…

…and who he’s looking forward to playing with the most.

He also revealed his biggest personal goal for the upcoming season.

That’s going to be an interesting thing to follow this season. Neither Curry nor Quincy Acy has played in an NBA playoff game and Jonathan Gibson hasn’t played in an NBA game, period. Meanwhile, Barnes and Bogut have played in back-to-back Finals. The Mavs have stacked top-level talent with loads of playoff experience and then filled the bench with players who are chomping at the bit to get there for the first time. That seems like a dynamic which could really work, as the starters and vets lead the way while feeding off the younger players’ hunger and enthusiasm.

While Curry might not admit it, his other goal for the season might be to catch ’em all.

But I think Mavs fans’ most important challenge off the bat should be to introduce him to real, true Tex-Mex.

Curry’s taste in Mexican food might come into question, but we should give him a pass because he’s never lived in Texas before. His new teammate Acy, though, is a Mesquite native — and while I have no idea if he’s a regular at taquerias around town, he did show his Texan colors last week on his own Twitter takeover.

That makes this reporter very happy.
