When did you know you wanted to be a DJ?
I’ve always had the desire to be a DJ going back to my days at the University of Missouri, where I studied broadcast journalism. DJing is something that has always pulled at my heart and I’m glad I was finally able to pursue my passion!
When was the moment you realized you could make this into a career?
I realized I could make this into a career once I found out that sports DJIng was a career from my good friend, Grubes. I didn’t even realize this was a real job until he entered the industry.
What’s it like playing music for 20,000 fans?
There’s obviously quite a bit of pressure since 20,000 people are listening to you work a live sporting event, where things can happen/change so quickly, but that challenge is what makes it so much fun to me. There’s no better feeling than picking the perfect song to play after a big 3 or a big dunk and watching your fellow MFFLs go crazy together.
What makes you a MFFL?
I was born and raised in Dallas, and I was fortunate enough to go to a lot of Mavs games while I was growing up with my family. Watching Mavericks basketball was a core part of my childhood.
What kind of audio equipment do you use?
I use a combination of SoundDirector, Click Effects and a Stream Deck. They all serve different purposes for the sounds of a Mavs game, but help me do my job as efficiently/quickly as possible.
How often do you update your music library?
I’m constantly updating my music library with new music that I think will play well at the AAC! Whenever I’m driving around town, I’m typically listening to playlists to try and find more music for the fans at the AAC to enjoy/dance to and clap along to during play.
If you had to play one song on repeat for the rest of your life what would it be and why?
I would play Best Day Ever by Mac Miller because it’s a song about working hard and always keeping a smile on your face/good attitude no matter where life takes you, which is something I do my best to live by every day.
