DALLAS – Mavericks guard Monta Ellis was named Western Conference Player of the Week for games played from Monday, April 7, through Sunday, April 13, the NBA announced today. Ellis has achieved the honor four times in his career, most recently as a Milwaukee Buck last season for games played from Dec. 24-30.
Ellis led the Mavericks to a 2-1 record with wins over the Utah Jazz and Phoenix Suns. He averaged 25.7 points, 4.7 assists, 4.0 rebounds, 1.0 steal and 40.0 minutes per game during that stretch while shooting 51.6 percent (32-of-62) from the field and 44.4 percent (4-of-9) from three-point range.
Ellis scored 37 points (15-of-23) on Saturday night in a 101-98 victory over the Suns. That game clinched a berth in the 2014 NBA Playoffs for the Mavericks.
Dirk Nowitzki won Western Conference Player of the Week honors last week making this the first time in franchise history that two Dallas teammates garnered the honor in back-to-back weeks.
