While the Mavericks are hoping that LukaDončić’s leg injury is not a long-term issue, the team said on its Tuesday injury report that their superstar point guard will miss Wednesday’s game at Phoenix.

Dončić suffered a sprained left knee and ankle in the final minute of Monday’s 111-101 victory over Denver at American Airlines Center. He hobbled to the Mavericks’ bench, and left the court under his own power.

But he clearly was in discomfort.

The Mavericks are starting a four-game trip with two games in Phoenix and two in Los Angeles against the Clippers.

Dončić has been remarkably durable. He has not missed any of the first 13 games this season and was out for only six of the 72 games in the 2020-21 season.

After a relatively slow start to the season, he’s averaged 26.5 points, 8.1 rebounds and 8.5 assists in the last eight games.

Jalen Brunson and Frank Ntilikina would be the most likely options to replace Dončić in the starting lineup.

The Mavericks also will be without Maxi Kleber, who has missed two weeks with a left oblique strain.
