FRISCO – Former Dallas Mavericks superstar forward Dirk Nowitzki and his wife, Jessica, will be presented with the prestigious Roger Staubach Award at the 10th Annual Emmitt Smith Celebrity Gala on Friday at the Omni Hotel in Frisco.
The red carpet starts at 5:30 p.m. and the dinner begins at 7 p.m.
The award is given to recipients who exemplify excellence professionally, personally and philanthropically.
In addition, ex-TCU standout and Pro Football Hall of Fame running back LaDainian Tomlinson and his wife, LaTorsha, will be the recipients of the Changemaker Award on Friday.
Robin Roberts, a co-host on ABC’s Good Morning America, will serve as the celebrity emcee for the gala, while Roger and Marianne Staubach are the honorary chairs.
Also, on Saturday the Emmitt Smith Celebrity Golf Tournament will be held at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney.
Proceeds from the event will fund the Pat and Emmitt Smith Charities, a public charity that provides unique educational opportunities and experiences for children.
Nowitzki announced his retirement from the NBA last month after spending his entire 21-year career with the Mavs. The 40-year holds several of the team’s franchise records and also finished his career as the No. 6 all-time leading scorer in NBA history with 31,560 points.
