DALLAS – The Dallas Mavericks recently teamed up with World of Dance (WOD) for a community event that showcased the talent of 50 students at the South Oak Cliff Branch of the Boys & Girls Club of Dallas. Hosted by World of Dance groups, Sorah Yang & Friends and the Poreotics, dozens of youth joined the action to learn dance technique and choreography from some of the world’s top performers.
The goal of the event was to create a dance-infused, uplifting atmosphere with a heavy emphasis on setting goals and chasing dreams.
“I hope that from this experience the kids leave with a sense of empowerment and self-belief,” said Yang. “They all love to dance and they’re all bursting with so much bright energy inside.”
The clinic started with a dance circle where everyone was encouraged to freestyle in the center. The professionals poured out words of encouragement and the children beamed with excitement to learn from some of the industry’s very best in the game.
“It reminds me of the power of dance and the power of community and basically the core of why we do this in the first place,” Yang added. “The power we have with using what we love to inspire other people.”
The Dallas Mavericks have been innovating the entertainment experience for the 2019-2020 season through an exclusive partnership with World of Dance (WOD), the world’s largest dance entertainment community. The world’s best dancers – from hip-hop, Latin, contemporary and more – have been showcased at the American Airlines Center for select home games, as well as participated in local Mavs community initiatives.
“There’s so much talent in Oak Cliff,” said Ci’Andria Jefferson, South Oak Cliff Club Director.
“I’ve been here for seven years and these kids out here are beyond talented, beyond experienced, and all they need is the opportunity for someone to believe in them and just pour into them. So to actually have World of Dance and the Dallas Mavericks here giving them the opportunity shows how much care and love and concern actually goes to the future of the kids.”
