The Jr. NBA intends to develop a lifelong passion for basketball in boys and girls ages 6 -14 by teaching the fundamentals while emphasizing sportsmanship, respect, teamwork, and healthy living. The NBA hopes to engage five million youth nationwide over the next two years through a series of basketball clinics, skills challenges, and regional tournaments in order to develop a lifelong passion for basketball.

On October 22, the Dallas Mavericks and the NBA kicked off the Jr. NBA with a special basketball clinic for middle school kids from Uplift Peak Preparatory at American Airlines Center. Forty kids learned basic skills training around the fundamentals of basketball with current Dallas Mavericks Devin Harris and Jeremy Evans and Mavs Basketball Academy coaches.
