Thanks to the support from the Dallas Mavericks and presenting sponsor 5miles, the Venture – Entrepreneurial Expedition digital course is presented in local middle schools throughout North Texas. Venture – Entrepreneurial Expedition is designed to teach students to think entrepreneurially about business and life. The course uses case studies, interactive business simulations and personal development activities to teach important basic business skills. Students develop a personalized plan for their individual business, along with a roadmap for academic and career success. The digital learning initiative, powered by global technology leader EVERFI, is being implemented directly in schools throughout North Texas with nearly 2,000 middle school students participating.
On Tuesday, November 13th the Dallas Mavericks will check in with the North Texas schools participating in the Venture Entrepreneurial Expedition during the 2018-2019 school year.
Students at Boude Storey Middle School in Dallas, will show off their new skills they have learned this fall. Members from the Dallas Maverick Dwight Powell, members from EVERFI and 5miles will be on hand to discuss the impact of the program on the students and the importance of the skills they are learning in this program to succeed in middle school as well as prepare for college and career readiness.
This spring the Dallas Mavericks, EVERFI, 5miles, and Dwight Powell will host a Business Pitch Competition celebration the students who have completed the Venture-Entreprenurial Expedition. At this event, students will show off what they have learned by pitching their business ideas to a panel of judges.
The Venture Entrepreneurial Expedition is a program developed by EVERFI to guide students through their personal journey to become an entrepreneur. The digital course is comprised of three modules that cover key concepts around generating business ideas, market research, growing a business, finances, marketing, and creating a business pitch. The Dallas Mavericks and Seth Curry launched the program in 2017 to help reach hundreds of middle school students throughout DFW. Thanks to the support from the Dallas Mavericks, the Seth Curry Foundation and presenting sponsor 5miles, the program has expanded to add six more schools, for a total of ten schools and nearly 2,000 students participating in the program by the end of the 2017-2018 school year.
