Café Momentum

Café Momentum is a restaurant training platform that provides post-release paid internships for juvenile offenders, through which they receive intensive culinary, job, and life skills training as well as continued mentoring and support to foster successful re-entry into the community. 90% of students will not recidivate in the year after graduating from the program and 80% will obtain employment. Mavs Foundation funding will help create an ecosystem of support for the 100 interns Café Momentum will serve this year. Specifically, funds will be used to supply DART passes to interns and will also cover urgent needs such as temporary housing deposits, utilities, clothing, groceries, toiletries, and emergency medical needs.

Focus On Teens

Focus on Teens (FoT) was created to compassionately serve the homeless or marginalized teen within the Dallas Independent School District. The prevention model focuses on reaching the teen and identifying the potential issues as close to the outset of homelessness as possible in order to mitigate long-term problems and behaviors. Funding from the Mavs Foundation will purchase food, clothing and other essential items for homeless teens who visit the Focus on Teens Drop in Centers located on DISD high school campuses.

Dallas Holocaust Museum/ Center for Education and Tolerance

The Dallas Holocaust Museum/ Center for Education and Tolerance is dedicated to preserving the memory of the Holocaust, and to teaching the moral and ethical response to prejudice, hatred and children. Mavs Foundation funding will allow 3,333 economically disadvantaged students from DISD to visit the Museum free of charge, as well as provide curriculum support for teachers for the program around the complex issues of human rights in the classroom.

Metrocrest Services, Inc.

Metrocrest Services provides programs for low-income individuals, families, and seniors that lead to self-sufficiency and foster. Many children receive their meals at school and when school is out for summer, they struggle with having enough to eat. Funding will support the Sack Summer Hunger program, a program that assists families in a time of crisis by providing a weekly distribution of food to cover breakfast, lunch, and snack over the nine weeks of summer. The grant will provide food for 523 students for the entire summer resulting in 47,070 meals.
