This week is the inaugural Jr. NBA Week, an effort to expand basketball participation for boys and girls ages 6-14. The Jr. NBA teaches the fundamental skills as well as the core values of the game at the grassroots level in an effort to help grow and improve the youth basketball experience for players, coaches and parents.

Part of the event is a series of quick coaching clinics the organization has posted on YouTube, and today it rolled out a video aimed at teaching young players to shoot. Mavs head coach Rick Carlisle led the clinic.

“Shooting the basketball is the very essence of our game. if you can put the ball into the basket, you can play,” he says in the video. “And I’ve been very fortunate to coach some of the greatest shooters in history.”
