DALLAS – The Dallas Mavericks will launch the 2019-2020 Season City Edition Jersey and Court with Art + Basketball, a unique, one-night event that will intertwine Dallas Mavericks basketball and the Dallas arts community, showcasing and celebrating DFW’s most innovative and contemporary artists in a colorful exhibition. The event will be on Tuesday, November 26th at 4:00PM on Victory Plaza at American Airlines Center before the Mavs vs. Clippers Game that tips off at 7:30PM.
Art + Basketball, presented by Dr Pepper and Budweiser, will be a Dallas Mavericks event unlike any other. Artists from across the metroplex will come together to showcase unique pieces of art inspired by the 2019 City Edition jersey, the City of Dallas and Mavs basketball. The gallery will feature all forms of art including 2D images, 3D sculptures, installations, digital and interactive/immersive works and more. A list of participating artists and their social handles have been provided below. Live music and entertainment will feature the Emerald City Band and DJ Joe Ramirez beginning at 4PM. The event will be tented and will go on rain or shine.
The 2019 Mavericks City Edition Jersey weaves deep into the fabric of the Dallas community, highlighting an eclectic arts scene that combines both the pride of the city and this team. This jersey is a true reflection of Dallas/Fort Worth arts, including bright colors, such as action green and new addition coastal blue, free-flowing creativity and unique graffiti.
The wordmark and design of the jersey represents not only the birth of the graffiti culture in the Dallas community, but also the importance of art as a vessel for expression and emotion. The Mavericks partnered with Dallas native, Tex Moton, graffiti revolutionist and co-founder of the Infinite Crew “IC” (est. 1995), and Chief Creative Officer of ALREADY Design Co., in Tex’s signature style of bold colors, and dynamic line movement that influenced the street art culture of Dallas in the late 90’s to current, he gave his modern spin to celebrate the new life and direction of the MAVS. This collaboration truly speaks to the incredible arts scene of Dallas.
The jersey features the jock tag phrase, “Deep in the Heart,” an expressive nod to the fusion of art, passion and sports in Dallas, the heart of Texas.
