2022 All Star Voting

DALLAS – The NBA announced today that Mavericks guard Luka Dončić has been named a reserve for the 71st NBA All-Star Game, which will take place in Cleveland on Sunday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. CT on TNT.

Dončić (6-7, 230) has earned his third consecutive All-Star selection, after he was voted as a starter each of the previous two years. The 22-year-old joins Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Shaquille O’Neal, Isiah Thomas, Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis as the only players to earn three All-Star nods before their 23rd birthday (Davis only appeared in two of those games, while the others saw action in all three). Dončić also joins Dirk Nowitzki (11 straight selections, 2002 to 2012) and Rolando Blackman (1985, 1986, 1987) as the only Mavericks to earn three-or-more consecutive All-Star bids.

Dončić is averaging team highs of 26.0 points, 8.8 rebounds, 8.9 assists, 1.2 steals and 35.2 minutes in 37 games (all starts) this season. He is the only NBA player averaging at least 25.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 8.0 assists per game in 2021-22 – his third consecutive season averaging at least 25-7-8. Dončić would join Oscar Robertson (six), James (five) and Russell Westbrook (three) as the only players in league history to record three-or-more seasons averaging at least 25-7-8.

Despite missing 15 games, Dončić still ranks tied for second in the league in 20-point, five-rebound, five-assist efforts (27) and fifth in triple-doubles (seven). He has also registered two triple-doubles with 15-plus assists this year, one fewer than the total produced by the rest of the NBA combined.

The fourth-year guard has recorded five of his triple-doubles over his last 13 games. He now has 43 triple-doubles in his young career and is tied with former Maverick Fat Lever for 10th place on the NBA’s all-time triple-doubles list. Dončić (19) is also one 30-point triple-double shy of becoming the sixth player in league history to record 20-or-more 30-point triple-doubles.

Dončić has led the Mavericks to a 29-23 (.558) start in 2021-22, including a 14-6 (.700) record in their last 20 games. Over his last eight games, Dončić is averaging 31.3 points (.494 FG, .386 3FG), 9.4 rebounds and 9.4 assists. Dallas currently sits in fifth place in the Western Conference.

The All-Star reserves were chosen by the NBA head coaches.

Cleveland is hosting NBA All-Star 2022, which will celebrate the league’s 75th anniversary season. Members of the 75th Anniversary Team, including Nowitzki and Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd, will be honored at All-Star 2022. Cleveland last hosted the event in 1997, when the NBA commemorated its 50th anniversary.
