Monta Ellis (born October 26, 1985) is an American professional basketball player who last played for the Milwaukee Bucks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Ellis entered the 2005 NBA Draft after graduating from Lanier High School in Jackson, Mississippi, and the Golden State Warriors drafted him in the second round. He is known for his spectacular speed, earning him the nickname “The Mississippi Missile”, and also for being a prolific scorer, capable of making difficult shots and taking over games in high-pressure situations.

Personal – First name is pronounced MON-tay … the son of Rosa Ellis … he and his wife, Juanika, have one son, Monta Jr., and one daughter, Myla … in the summer of 2010, launched the “ME8 Foundation” to assist families and children in Jackson, Mississippi, and the Bay Area … named co-winner of the 2010-11 Golden State Warriors Foundation Community Service Award, which is given annually to the Warriors player who best exemplifies the spirit of community service through their outstanding commitment of time, service and financial support to children and families … sponsored two Feed The Children events, in which he helped distribute food to more than 1,200 local families in need … also took part a special Season of Giving Holiday Party for 20 kids from the Make-A-Wish Foundation and their families at the practice facility, which for the day was morphed into a giant playground with numerous kids activities … in 2008-09, joined teammate Andris Biedrins to help unveil a newly refurbished basketball court at the Leonard J. Meltzer Boys & Girls Club in Oakland as part of Toyota Project Rebound … for the past five seasons, purchased 25 tickets to every home game and donated those tickets to various children’s groups who attended games in the Monta’s Mob seating section … served as a coach for the NBA Entertainment League Celebrity Charity Game and made several appearances at Warriors Basketball Camp sessions … in the summer of 2008, joined forces with fellow NBA player Maurice Williams to host the Mississippi Celebrity Basketball Game at Jackson State University.
