Broadcast Director

Department: Marketing & Communications
Status: Full-Time
Reports to: Vice President of Marketing & Communications

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Communicate with VP of Marketing, VP of Corporate Sales and VP of Operations in formulating the overall direction and message of the Mavericks’ local television and radio broadcasts;
  • Create plan of action and communicate this plan to all broadcast department staff and independent contractors who work on the broadcasts – assign applicable tasks to each;
  • Hire and supervise staff and independent contractors (including TV producer and director, associate producer, EVS operator, home radio engineers, and loggers);
  • Set up over-the-air TV networks (if applicable);
  • Meet regularly with announcers, broadcast crew, and TV and radio partners;
  • Make sure arrangements are made for radio engineers and equipment for all local radio broadcasts, both English and Spanish;
  • Provide for the maintenance of company-owned broadcast equipment;
  • For home games, liaison with the national television broadcaster (when applicable) regarding camera locations, placement of announce table, crew parking, and other operational logistic;
  • Make sure all home game-day operational logistics are in place, including radio table set up, camera locations, and broadcast crew parking).
  • Produce finished pieces for Broadcast, Marketing, Corporate Sales, Basketball, and outside entities. Meet with client, determine goals, writing scripts, finding talent, scheduling shooting, building graphics, finding music, laying out the timeline, revising piece based on client changes, delivery of finished piece and debrief for any further steps;
  • Edit the pieces produced. Wire to wire production from concept to creation to final execution. Fluid in either Avid, Final Cut and/or Premier Pro. Work with motion graphics work and am solid on Photoshop and After Effects. Good working knowledge of Illustrator, and Cinema 4D and 3D studio Max;
  • Avid photographer and able to sub in video acquisition and shoot whatever needs to be recorded. Interviews, green-screen composites, elements, b-roll, live events;
  • Systems Design: Responsible for acquisition of all Mavs footage. Ingesting shoots, logging melts, distributing clips to vendors and partners. Logging all screen show sponsored elements. Design and distribute clips to corporate sales after every home game;
  • Engineering: Design, budget and execute a variety of on-location events (Technical Foul, West TX, Media Day, remote shoots).Trouble shoot any issues from Coaches video, AAC issues. Assist IT department for computer issues and the crossover between computers and video worlds;
  • Live Events Operation: Fill in for almost any position. Broadcast or In-Arena. Produce, Direct, Technical Direct, strong EVS/ replay skills, weak but serviceable audio skills, camera, crossfire and Chyron;
  • Build and maintains a strong library of in-game and broadcast/web elements;
  • Edit video content for various marketing and sales department messages i.e. :60/:30/:15 television and radio broadcast spots promoting ticket sales, corporate promotions, branded messages, community PSA’s and other messages, events & ceremonies, etc. throughout the regular and off-season. These spots will be shown on various outlets including TV, radio, in-arena and interactive;
  • Assist with any pre-game setup at the arena including delivery and loading game day content into the Click Effects system;
  • Assist Mavs Creative Director and PR Director on Media Day by overseeing all shoots with coaches and players. Collecting and prioritizing all content collected that day to be used throughout the regular and post season;
  • Integrate game presentation and broadcast elements with team website i.e. video of entertainment; promote upcoming ticket offers, marketing & corporate promotions, etc;
  • Other duties may be assigned.

The Broadcast Director will have the right combination of solid video production and editing knowledge, camera operation lighting and audio setup, creativity, writing, passion for sports, and the ability to learn quickly and thrive within the Dallas Mavericks Marketing and Communications Department. Excellent organizational and verbal skills are a must, and the ability to multitask and work long irregular hours is also required. Prior experience Producing & Editing in a live sports and/or entertainment environment is very helpful.

  • Minimum of 4 years of non-linear edit experience
  • Able to adapt to new technologies and concepts in workflow
  • Troubleshoots basic technical issues
  • Strong time and resource management skills
  • Meets critical deadlines under flexible circumstances
  • Video Editing experience on Avid, Final Cut, or Premiere
  • Proficiency in Adobe CC applications (Photoshop/ Illustrator/ After Effects)
  • Comprehensive understanding of digital workflow, broadcast measurements, and A/V formats
  • Team oriented / collaborative personality but able to produce projects from start to finish with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of basketball/ sports a plus

Qualified candidates will have working knowledge of the following: Final Cut, Adobe, General Production Equipment (DVcam, Audio Equipment, Production Lights, etc.), Knowledge of Windows Media, Real Media, QuickTime, MPEG and various audio files (mp3/.wav), Microsoft Word & Excel, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Illustrator.

Corporate Sponsor Account Executive

The Dallas Mavericks have an immediate opening for a Corporate Sponsor Sales Executive. This position sells and services Dallas Mavericks corporate sponsorships and advertising through a variety of mediums including TV, radio, print, internet,, signage, corporate promotions, hospitality, special event, grassroots and community relations efforts.

Responsibilities and duties include the prospecting of new corporate sponsors/advertisers, building and presenting custom tailored proposals meeting existing and new sponsors’ marketing objectives, maintain follow-up meetings to reach sponsorship agreement/contract, fulfillment and execution of all sponsorship agreements/contracts and renewing and increasing investment of all sponsorship agreements at year end.

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills to perform the position requirements successfully. Five years of sales experience, a college degree in business, advertising/marketing, communications or related field experience in radio, TV or sports marketing is helpful.

Excellent written and verbal communications skills is required, ability to interact with and build relationships with new and existing clients, ability to work well with other team members and the ability to work long hours ( ie., during the season) , possess a professional demeanor be detail oriented, persistent, creative, computer literate with individual accountability.

Interactive Database Manager

Reports to: Vice President of Marketing & Communications

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Oversee the entire Dallas Mavericks Salesforce.com CRM and ExactTarget ESP/direct marketing efforts.
  • Responsible for setting up campaigns in Salesforce.com, updating all tracking in email templates as well as landing pages.
  • Work with various departments to stay ahead of critical key ticket sales and promotional dates by developing and implementing e-mail campaigns i.e. on sales, renewals, special events, game day alerts, tune-in messaging, etc.
  • Create quarterly email plans, forecast results and set goals for each campaign.
  • Create campaign strategies i.e. A/B testing, and make recommendations for future campaigns based on results.
  • Maintain weekly, monthly, quarterly reports on actual results compared to forecast and develop dashboards for the Sales, Marketing and Digital departments.
  • Have a project manager mindset to handle and manage multiple email sends and projects while working under pressure and meeting tight deadlines.
  • Manage a centralized database of record along with the ability of importing data from other data points including web, social, email sign sign-ups, sms opt-ins that generate qualified leads and build stronger customer and business profiles.
  • Track and analyze all data sources (Ticketmaster and Salesforce.com) and email campaign activity (Exact Target) in order to improve and implement new ticket purchase trends, increase open and click through rates, expand customer profiles, generate new leads, support new products and offers, etc.
  • Identify opportunities with consumer and business segments in creating email promotions for Ticket Sales, Corporate Sales, Marketing Programs and Mavs Merchandise.
  • Ensure the integrity of the team’s database by overseeing necessary data hygiene and identification of stagnant profiles and segments.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of Salesforce.com and ExactTarget via best practices for future application, updates and designs, consumer trends on visits and spending, etc.
  • Work with the NBA database team to ensure our database technologies are adhering to league guidelines and best practices.
  • Oversee and manage email vendor relationships.

Required Skills:

  • A working knowledge of Salesforce.com is a MUST.
  • Experience with Exact Target email marketing platform.
  • Strong PC skills: Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Comfortable with HTML and preferably some CSS.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Photoshop and Dreamweaver.
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Experience and Skills:

  • Three to five years of CRM/email marketing experience.
  • Bachelors Degree from an accredited University.
  • Communicates well, both verbally and in writing.
  • Outstanding listening skills.
  • Excellent analytical and management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to work well with other people and all internal departments including sales, marketing communications and creative.
